RHYC Arts Group

The RHYC Arts Group was set up in January 2009 by Sue Rolls, a Club member and a recent graduate in Fine Art & Design, who wanted to add a new dimension to the social activities that the club could offer.

The group meets once a month for a full day of activities ranging from workshops, to drawing and painting in and around the area together. There are also monthly evening talks on various art related subjects.

The group meets from October to the end of March, with a break for sailing in the summer. It has been formed on a self help basis and is open to all RHYC members. An exhibition was held in August 2009 and a similar event is planned for 2010.

The members pay £2.50 towards the cost of the Saturday workshops and there is a one off cost of £5.00 to become a member of the art group. There is also a small charge for the evening talks which are also open to non members of the RHYC with an additional small cost.

At the moment members are enjoying three colour mixing workshops led by Sue Rolls.

The Arts Group continues the club’s historical connection with the subject. It once had its own artist in residence and of course has a wonderful collection of maritime paintings.
