Art Club Programme
The RHYC Arts Group was set up in January 2009 by Sue Rolls, a club member and a B.A. (hons) graduate in Fine Art & Design. She wanted to add a new dimension to the social activities that the club could offer.
The group is now in its third year, with its membership still growing and it enjoys a loyal group of enthusiastic and supportive members who range from complete beginners to those who are more experienced to accomplished artists.
Members meet twice a month. Once on a Saturday, for a practical workshop day, working on projects together and the other on a Thursday evening when a variety of lectures, talks, debates and films are enjoyed on arts related topics.
The group meets from October through to March, with a break for sailing in the summer. It has been formed on a self-help basis and is open to all RHYC members.
The group have now held three successful exhibitions of members work, and this year’s exhibition ran for ten days ending at the Regatta Weekend. A private view was also held which proved to be very successful. In March, a group of eight people visited Copenhagen for three days. One of the highlights of their visit was to the Louisiana Museum of Modern art.
The members pay £2.50 towards the cost of the Saturday workshops and there is a one off cost of £5.00 to join the art group. There is also a small charge for the evening talks which are also open to all R.H.Y.C., members at an additional small cost.
