Junior Programme
Our ethos is to provide all our families and children the best opportunities to become involved in safe sailing from an early age. We are proud to offer a variety of courses for all children in a secure and friendly environment. Below details Saturday practice sessions and the Race Week. If you require structured training leading to RYA qualifications please look at - Sailing - Junior Programme. This provides information on the Junior Training Weeks at both RHYC and Alton Water.
On Board Saturday Mornings for 9 years and above...
Sessions for children to build on the skills learnt at training weeks or as an introduction to sailing. All sessions start with a briefing at 1030 sharp with launching at 1100! Parents are required to remain onsite at Royal Harwich Yacht Club for the duration of the session.
31st July / 21st August / 11th September / 9th October and 23rd October

On Board Sunday Mornings for 6-8 year olds
These sessions are to encourage younger children on to the water and to make it a fun and enjoyable introduction to sailing! Children would need to be ready at 10am in a wetsuit and buoyancy aid (you will need to provide your own), a short briefing will follow before launching. Given the age of the children they will be afloat for approx 30 minutes before returning for a warm drink, followed by another 30 minutes afloat. There will be a maximum of 6 children using optimists with a support boat in attendance for the duration of the session.

Volvo Champion Programme Race Training
A structured race training programme for those who have achieved most of the RYA dinghy sailing levels (aged 12 upwards with at least RYA 3) and are now looking to expand their sailing skills into the racing arena.
Volvo Champion Clubs are RYA recognised clubs concentrating on junior training and more information about the structure and aims can be found on the RYA website
Taking place at the same times as the On Board sailing (detailed above), members are expected to sign up for all the sessions in advance. (Prices to be confirmed for 2010). Please contact Kathryn in the Office to book:

RHYC Junior Racing Week - 23rd - 27th August 2010
In 2009 we had the largest number of children and dinghies entered for some years. If you missed out make sure you get the date in your diary for 2010. It is open to ALL children aged 8 to 18 and includes a range of dinghies from an Oppie to an RS 400! Places will be limited this year so please book in advance!
Tabs can be set up for families but will require a form to be filled in at the bar in advance.
