As is traditional, the Club held its annual sailing regatta over the Bank Holiday weekend, however, due to difficult tide timings, the event was held on Saturday and Sunday, rather than the usual Sunday / Bank Holiday Monday. In fact some preferred this arrangement as it didn't require participants to rush off early in order to prepare for returning to work on Tuesday. The best of the weekend weather was reserved for the Sunday evening, which made it ideal for a barbeque on the lawn as the sun went down. For the competitors there was a good north-westerly breeze on the Saturday and a fairly brisk southerly on Sunday. The cruisers and keelboat classes had one longish race down to the harbour and beyond, each day, starting in the morning, while the dinghy races began mid-afternoon as soon as there was enough water depth around the various marks.
Many thanks to Phil and Sue Bowler and Christine Miller for assisting in the Race Box, and to Heidi Wright, Katie Shufflebottom, Rod Evans, Karl Grimwade, Molly Kay and Helena Negus for manning the support boats very efficiently. Lastly many thanks to the Club staff and to everyone who participated on the water.
Stuart Miller.
