Tera Open - 10th September 2017
After a 4 ½ month postponement we finally saw 21 Teras at RHYC for the Tera Open on 10th September. The weather forecast promised almost as much wind as we had seen in April but blowing from over the club and not being (quite) as intense as it had promised we managed to get the 4 scheduled races in. It’s fair to say that the shelter of the RHYC lawn made the conditions look a lot better than they really were and all the participants did well in gusty and changing conditions. The wind grew steadily throughout the day and the encroaching storm clouds finally broke at the start of the final race!
Joe Hunt stood in at the last minute as our Race Officer and did an outstanding job, ably assisted on the Committee boat by Izzy Taylor-Jones and Josie Ruffles with the safety boats driven by Tim Hunt, Toby Ruffles, Hobie Wright and Pete Smallwood. A huge thanks to all who helped (and Neptune for loan of their RIB) and we look forward to welcoming the Teras back again next year to this and other events.”
Tera Train and Race Report 29-30th April
Saturday dawn with the prospect of terrific weather a gentle building breeze saw 14 Teras take to the water along with a number of RHYC terrors for 4 hours of coaching provided by Hobie Wright and his team. As the breeze increased so did the number of capsizes!
Many thanks to the Bar and Catering.
Sunday was terrible.
Simon Ruffles and I met at 8.30 to watch gusts of 30 knots straight up the river. After much pontificating we chose to postpone for an hour to allow the forecasted wind to drop. It didn’t and after 2 further postponements and a steady “breeze” of 30 knots and gusts of 37 we made the difficult decision to come back another day. The Open has now been re-scheduled for Sunday, 10th September 2017.
Thanks to all who helped and lent their RIBs for support.
