RHYC  Art Group

Royal Society of Marine Artists Exhibition

Anna Block, a founding member of the Art Group, is to exhibit a work created during the Art Group’s workshops. Anna’s work is a collage entitled “Links” and shows a  length of chain and a shackle. Over 1300 works were submitted and Anna’s work was selected to appear in the prestigious exhibition to be held by The Royal Society of Marine Artists at the Mall Galleries in London from 5-14 of October. Anna has gradually developed her skills in collage, over the last seven years, and now specialises in this art form. Well done Anna.

Art Group’s successful exhibition

The art group held the seventh annual exhibition of its work over the Easter weekend. There were nearly forty exhibits ranging from large pastels, landscapes in oil, collages, water colours and acrylics.

The RHYC. Art Group was founded in January 2009 by the late Sue Rolls, B.A. hons. graduate, in Fine Art and Design. She wanted to add a new dimension to the social activities the club could offer.

The membership of the group ranges from those who are just beginning to those who are experienced artists. We all enjoy each other’s company and meet for six Saturday workshops from October to March. Sometimes we have visiting artists who give us the benefit of their expertise. At other times we “paint in company” in the spirit of self help and mutual encouragement.

We work towards an annual exhibition of our work, usually held in Spring, after our last workshop in March.

We also organise occasional gallery and museum visits and evening talks, in which the Saturday Artists usually participate. These talks and visits are also open to the wider club membership, those who do not wish to paint but are interested in the arts ie. The Art Appreciation Group. To join this group just register your interest with a committee member and you will be notified of forthcoming events.

The Art group aims to cover its costs. The charge for all six workshops is £20. Visits are on a “pay as you go basis”, any charge for visiting artists or speakers is dependent on their fees.
